On the afternoon of August 25th, the Opening Ceremony of BUPT-emlyon Global Executive MBA (“GEMBA”) 2022 Spring Cohort was held in Beijing. 55 industry leaders and business executives from all over the country gathered together to set sail in this exciting journey and meet the extraordinary future.

A number of leaders and guests attended the Opening Ceremony, including Prof. William Hua Wang, Associate Dean of emlyon business school and Dean of emlyon Asia, Zhang Weiwei, Director of Executive Education Program (EMBA, MBA, EDP) at emlyon Asia, Wang Jing, Assistant Director of EMBA Program at emlyon business school, Prof. Sun Hongxiang, Associate President of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), Chen Yan, Director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office at BUPT, Wang Hongyuan, Party Secretary of BUPT School of Economics and Management (SEM), Prof. He Wei, Dean of BUPT SEM, Prof. He Ying and Zhang Xiaohang, Deputy Deans of BUPT SEM, Yang Fan, Director of EMBA Program, as well as Feng Xuesen, a representative of GEMBA 2021 Autumn Cohort participants, and all the participants of BUPT-emlyon 2022 Spring Cohort. The event was presided over by Prof. Zhang Xiaohang, Deputy Dean of BUPT SEM.

Before the ceremony, Prof. William Hua Wang extended congratulations to the freshmen of GEMBA 2022 Spring Cohort in his warm-up speech. He pointed out that we are in an era full of rapid change, while geopolitical conflicts, rampant COVID-19 pandemic, economic and trade barriers, global warming and other factors are constantly affecting our work and life. In the face of unprecedented difficulties and challenges, we should be confident that we will see the sunshine through the dark clouds and seek the ways of "innovation, entrepreneurship and wealth creation". Prof. Wang wished that all the participants present would keep in mind the entrepreneurial mission and successfully start the pioneering journey of Early Makers at BUPT-emlyon GEMBA Program.

With the solemn national anthems of the French Republic and the People's Republic of China, the Opening Ceremony officially kicked off.

In his opening speech, Prof. Sun Hongxiang, Associate President of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, extended a warm welcome to the guests, faculty and participants present, and reviewed BUPT’s glorious history and major achievements. He stressed that BUPT is the first post and telecommunications institution of higher learning in New China, known as the “Whampoa Military Academy of Information and Communication”, and is ranked among China’s "Double First-class Initiative", "211 Project" and "985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform". After more than 60 years of development, a multi-level academic architecture deeply rooted in information and communication and featuring distinctive disciplines and specialties has been formed. As one of the first three colleges established at BUPT, the School of Economics and Management takes training leaders in the global information and communication industry as its mission and has delivered numerous outstanding talents in the fields of information, communication and Internet to the society for years. Prof. Sun hoped that the participants would take this opportunity to work hard, live up to their youth, study knowledge, perceive the world and fulfill their lives.

Prof. Isabelle Huault, Executive President & Dean of emlyon business school, expressed sincere welcome and warm congratulations to the freshmen of GEMBA 2022 Spring Cohort in her video speech. She explained that BUPT-emlyon GEMBA Program is one of the top programs at emlyon Asia, the educational quality and management standards of which have been recognized by the state. emlyon business school since its creation in 1872 has been driven by entrepreneurship spirit. Now its strategies are created around globalization, hybridization, digitalization and social and environmental responsibility, aiming to foster makers and visionaries. She hoped that the participants would harvest unforgettable experience in this Program under emlyon’s “Early Makers” Pedagogy, in order to perform managerial practices and organizations, and act in a very sustainable way in the future.

Mr. Fu Dongqiang, Representative of North China Alumni Association of emlyon business school, sent alumni’s blessings to the freshmen of GEMBA 2022 Spring Cohort. emlyon’s alumni network boasts more than 35,000 alumni in 130 countries. In April 2019, emlyon business school established North China Alumni Association in Beijing, followed by East China Alumni Association in Shanghai in November 2020. Mr. Fu noted that joining the GEMBA Program means becoming part of the vibrant, friendly, enthusiastic and well-managed emlyon alumni network. In this big family jointly built by faculty and students, everyone can share industrial resources, explore the digital economy, participate in diverse extracurricular activities and reinforce valuable friendship. For the arrival of GEMBA freshmen, he hoped that every participant would keep an “empty cup” mindset and make the most of the study journey over the next two years. He wished that all participants would have the opportunity to know their classmates in the “Whampoa Military Academy of Information” and “Early Maker” Program.

Feng Xuesen, Representative of GEMBA 2021 Autumn Cohort, shared his one-year growth at BUPT-emlyon GEMBA Program. In an inclusive and open learning atmosphere, he not only built a specialized knowledge system, but also made lifetime friends. The faculty of BUPT-emlyon GEMBA Program act as both teachers and friends, who deliver knowledge and guide the work and life balance of participants. During his campus year, he passionately participated in various sports activities organized by the school and constantly improved his self-health management. Joining the Gobi Challenge also made him fall in love with running. He strongly called on the participants of GEMBA 2022 Spring Cohort to actively attend the upcoming events organized by the school and become Early Makers in all-round development.

Yang Bei, Representative of BUPT-emlyon GEMBA 2022 Spring Cohort, thanked BUPT-emlyon GEMBA Program for giving her the opportunity to return to campus. After years of professional experience, she joined BUPT-emlyon GEMBA Program to learn new knowledge and explore the infinite possibilities in the future. Meanwhile, she looked forward to endeavoring to make progress and pursue innovation along with faculty and classmates together.
